Digital Transformation
& Modernization

We help organizations update legacy systems and manual processes in stages, with a business case for each stage, so the work is funded in pieces and avoids one big rewrite.

When clients call us

The organizations that call us run something important on technology that is old, expensive to change, or understood by only a few people. A full rewrite sounds attractive and is often the wrong answer. Replacing everything at once puts the organization at risk, and the business case tends to fall apart halfway through.

We work with the executives who own the system or the process, and with the technology teams who maintain it. We aim for a sequence of smaller changes, each with its own benefit, that adds up to a modern platform.

What the work includes

Assessing the portfolio

We inventory the applications and processes involved and rate each one on business value, risk, cost to run, and technical debt. This often shows that some systems can be retired outright and that a few matter much more than the rest.

Choosing a path for each system

For each system we recommend whether to retire it, move it as it is, refactor it, or replace it, and we explain why. The recommendation reflects your budget, your people, and how much downtime the business can tolerate.

Preparing people for the change

New systems fail when users do not adopt them. We plan the training, communication, and changes to roles and workflows that go with the technology, and we involve the users early.

Building the business case

We put together the cost, benefit, and timing for each phase in a form that can go through budget approval, so that funding is released in steps instead of all at once.

Where we have done this

  • 300,000 users. Modernized a learning-management platform, including the user experience and application design.
  • 70%+ savings on network costs. Guided retail trading partners from value-added networks to EDI while building the retail industry’s first B2B exchange.
  • $30M yearly pipeline in 18 months. Led an innovation team that took SaaS versions of core products from concept to market-ready.
  • 40% better response efficiency. Turned a federal contact-center transformation into roadmaps and workflows the program could carry out.

Next step

If you are running something important on old technology, tell us what must keep working and what is holding you back. We typically respond within one business day.
